Growing Up

Image
I'd  been dreading this day for weeks. I opened my eyes this morning and realized that it was finally September 30th -- my birthday. I am finally 19. A lot of people wouldn't get freaked out about their birthday until they're in their thirties. Lame as it may sound, last night was spent being confused about how I should feel about my birthday. I would feel panic as to where my life was going.

Female Masturbation

Sex has been considered as a taboo for so many years, but let's just face it: we're all curious about sex. Earlier in life, a lot of people started exploring their own body and sexuality by masturbating. Most people have masturbated at some point in their lives, including women. A recent study done by the University of Chicago sociologists on 3,116 Americans aged 18 to 60 (1,769 women and 1,347 men) concluded that only 38 percent of women said they'd masturbated at all during the past year. The figure for men was 61 percent. Why is the number lower for women? Again, we're back to the whole taboo about how it's wrong for women to masturbate. Well, if you know me, you'll know that I love breaking taboos. For now, let's turn the lights down low, light up some candle, put on some slow music, and get down to business. Ladies (and men, too), today, we're going to talk about masturbation 101.

Slut-Shaming And Victim-Blaming

Madonna once sang: "It's a man's man's world"; indeed, the world we're living in is a man's world. Women have come a long way from being traded as objects to finally having our own rights and becoming leaders. Although women are gradually being acknowledged and appreciated in the workplace, when it comes to sexuality, women still have a long way to go. Sex is still a taboo topic for women; for those who rebel against that and openly express their sexuality are deemed as being "sluts". What's even worse? A lot of those women are blamed for being sexually assaulted.

Summer of '13

Image
For most of you, school has already been back in session. Summer is drifting to an end. For most of us, that also means bidding our summer romance farewell. Looking back, this year has been the most incredible year thus far in my life, so today, I want to write a completely heart-felt post, rather than one with facts and statistics to back it up. My post from a few months back titled "The Ugly Truth of Life" was one of the most genuine and vulnerable posts I've ever written. It was completely full of raw emotions. Since I'm going to be turning 19 in a few weeks, I want to dedicate this post as a reflection back to my life this past year, especially my summer of '13.
